About Us

Launched on January 10, 2001, the Minority Business Directory (MBD), Now known as  The Community Network Directory promotes women and minority owned businesses. It has been relentless in its mission to expose the opportunities that might otherwise have been allowed to gather dust in a procurement officer's or prime contractor’s inbox.  Before the emergence of the TCND, there was no other quantifiable way to broadcast specific information to and about these niche groups in an online and hardcopy version.

Budget cuts and administrative apathy have undermined government sanctions designed to promote professional diversity, leading to false reports that claim these government agencies and businesses cannot find the qualified minority professionals that exist virtually at their fingertips.  But it’s not only government and big business to blame.  Many women or minority owned businesses shy away from being identified as such,  and many MWBE companies fail at due diligence on public information  that primes and procurement officers use, accurate information is key, or ignorant of the fact that their gender or cultural background automatically qualifies them for millions of dollars in assistance.

Now partnered with the NYS Health Department, NJ Transit and the New York Power Authority, Schiavone, Con Edison, National Grid, Skanska, these companies can reach out to every veteran, certified and non-certified minority business in the greater New York area with the vital information necessary for continued growth. We also highly encourage you to get your business certified with the Empire State Development and the NYC Department of Small Business Services.  While these agencies and others do not always embrace MBD now known as The Community Network Directory, they nevertheless assist in opening gateways to social change and women and minority business success.

In the next year, we will direct mail our directory to 68,000 women and minority businesses in the state of New York .  As of now, there are only approximately 8,000 women and minority owned businesses identified as certified and don't identify veterans.  Our objective now and for the next year is to encourage more veterans, women and minorities to get their businesses certified as MWBEs and DBEs.  The Minority Business Directory will also showcase private and government agencies that have a sincere desire to team up with women and minority businesses in their future enterprises.

Here are just some of the marketing benefits to joining the Minority Business Directory community:

(1) Agencies searching for certified women and minority businesses will no longer have to toggle between websites to find their desired company.  MWBE and DBE companies are listed in one location: the Minority Business Directory.  In the near future, the federal certification status information of the listed businesses will appear on our web site and in our hard copy directory version.
